Klezmer in the park hits London this Saturday!

As the first signs of Autumn appear, here is a chance to grab a (hopefully) sunny day out with the joy of klezmer music, all for free. Yes, it is that annual jamboree and fun-fest known as “Klezmer in the Park”, taking place this Sunday 5 September, between 1 pm and 5 pm, at Regent's Park Bandstand, Inner Circle, Regent's Park, London, NW1 4NR

DJ-ed by Max Reinhardt of BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, the programme includes the following:

1pm Vivi Lachs and Klezmer Klub performing funny and poignant songs from London’s East End

2pm Daphna Sadeh and the Voyagers play Middle Eastern and Mediterranean sounds

3pm Gypsy brass with sultry singer Polina Shepherd and Fanfara

4pm the group She’koyokh play klezmer with Balkan infusions.

And not to forget the indescribable Rumplestilstein and Klezmer on Stilts. The mind boggles – and probably the legs too…

Interspersed between these acts will be some traditionally vivacious line and circle dancing with ‘instructions’ yelled by dance callers, Andreas Schmitges, Ilana Cravitz and Guy Schalom. Kosher food will be on sale from Hendon Bagel Bakery and Orli Caffé. Presented by the Jewish Music Institute and the Jewish News and Media Group and supported by the Mayor of London on behalf of JCUK. Along with a host of others.

You can bring a picnic – Untold London has been told! – and enjoy ancillary events such as cultural exhibitions and children’s activities
