The Department of Prehistory and Europe (P&E) holds the Museum’s collections of art and archaeology of Europe from the earliest times to the present day.

The Department of Prints and Drawings (P&D) has one of the best collections outside Germany of works on paper by German artists, with particular strengths in the Gothic and Renaissance periods.

Coins, medals and paper money from Germany are held by the Department of Coins and Medals (C&M), from 2000-year-old Roman coins, to Renaissance medals, beautiful early modern silver thalers, 20th-century notgeld, and the Euro.
