Objects of Love and Desire

22nd and 29th January 2 - 4.30

Writer Shaun Levin will be leading a writing workshop for all queer people - lesbian, gay, trans, bi, intersex, questioning - to explore the "things" in our lives and how they can inspire writing.

Objects tell stories. Objects are prompts for poems, short fiction, novels, and memoirs.

Using our own objects as well as inspiration from the Jewish Museum's collections and displays, this practical workshop we’ll look at different ways of using objects to tell personal stories, family stories, stories about our communities, our faith, and our lovers.

Some objects are lost, even if the stories are still remembered, and some objects we carry with us. Some objects we put on our shelves, at our bedsides, or we keep in boxes tucked away. We will write stories about objects, re-imagine objects we’ve lost or discarded, make up new objects, and explore the symbolism, the functionality, and the history of the objects in our lives.

1st session - Sunday, 22 Jan 2012, 2-4.30pm
2nd session - Sunday, 29 Jan, 2-4.30pm
